Whenever I'm working with MySQL databases I will always use SQL Buddy, simple, great UI and powerful, there's no need for something more complicated or server-heavy. SQL Buddy is a super handy little app for seeing a birds eye view of your databases. Would I use it in production? No. But when it comes to the small tasks that need to be done when developing a web app, it hands down beats the heavyweights like PHPMyAdmin.

The setup time is tiny, the UI is clean, it uses asynchronous requests for many of the operations making it fast – which is really the key feature when developing something with a database backend.
